PECS – Make Your Own

I just came across a few websites that allow you to make your own picture and symbol cards that can be used for PECS, social stories, picture schedules, etc.

Do2Learn  – Contains free black and white symbol cards in 1 or 2 inch sizes.  Go to “Picture Cards” and then “Print Cards” to see the topic choices.

Speaking of Speech – Their Materials Exchange pages contain sheets of pictures and symbols that were created for use in the classroom, but the pictures can be cut up and used for whatever purpose you need.

Mrs. Riley – Allows you to upload your own pictures to modify for PECS or other purposes.  Contains over 3,000 picture and symbol cards.  Users can browse and use cards that were created and shared by others here.  There is a free one day trial.  The cost after the trial is $5/1 month or $15/4 months or $45/12 months.

SEN Teacher – I just found this terrific site that allows you to search for and label picture cards for use in PECS-type communication. There are sample topical cards provided, but you can make your own or even change some of the items on the sample cards. For each word you enter into search, the site returns the top 7 images it finds for that word.

If you are looking for a decent, inexpensive laminator for home use, I have had success with this one Scotch Thermal Laminator 15.5 Inches x 6.75 Inches x 3.75 Inches, 2 Roller System (TL901)Laminating Machines).

Please comment below if you have other suggestions for making your own picture and symbol cards.
